Aurora
History
The Town of Aurora as a government was founded in 1818, fourteen years after the first settler Jabez Warren obtained a contract from the Holland Land Company for 1,443 acres and made it his family’s home in 1804. Previously, Native Americans lived in the area. The town is 36 square miles with a current population of approximately 14,000, which includes the Village of East Aurora, the hamlets of Jewettville, Griffins Mills, West Falls and a portion of South Wales.
Aurora is also well known for its contribution to the turn-of-the-century Arts & Crafts movement, led by Elbert Hubbard, who founded the Roycroft Community at the corners of Main and South Grove Streets. Clarence
Since its establishment, Clarence has progressed from an isolated, heavily forested wilderness inhabited by a few sturdy pioneers to a thriving suburban town. Named from the English House, of Clarence the Town was established as the first township in Erie County on March 11, 1808. It contains more than 52 square miles and, while it has not incorporated villages, it is comprised of communities of Clarence, Harris Hill, Clarence Center, and Wolcottsburg as well as parts of the hamlets of Swormville, East Amherst and Millersport.

Elma
The Town of Elma was split from the Towns of Aurora and Lancaster. Encompassing 36 square miles with two major waterways, the Buffalo Creek and Cazenovia Creek, Elma sits squarely in the center of Erie County and can safely call itself the Heart of Erie County. Over 11,317 residents call Elma home, as does Iroquois Central School, one of Western New Yorks top rated school systems, and Elma Meadows Golf Course, one of Erie Countys top public courses. Since the 1700’s Grand Island has been a resort, a lumber town, a colonial battleground, part of the City of Buffalo and part of nearby Town of Tonawanda. Grand Island claimed its “independence” in 1852, and aside from appreciating our history, we haven’t looked back. Buckhorn Island State Park
Buckhorn Island State Park nature preserve, 895 acres of marsh, meadows and woods and the last vestige of once vast marshlands and meadows that bordered the Niagara River, is classified as a park preserve. The public is welcome to walk the nature trails, hike, bike, kayak, canoe, fish and cross-country ski in the park. Ongoing restoration continues to re-establish wetland cover and water levels and increase the diversity of native flora and fauna. The ongoing restoration plan includes increasing public access with more non-intrusive trails, overlooks and bird watching blinds.
Beaver Island State Park
Beaver Island State Park is located at the south end of Grand Island in the upper Niagara River. The 950 acre park has a half-mile sandy beach for swimming, adjacent 80 slip marina with both seasonal and transient boat slips, fishing access, car-top boat launch, multiple canoe/kayak launches, bike and nature trails, nature center, playgrounds, picnic areas, athletic fields, horseshoe pits, an 18 hole championship disc golf course, an 18-hole championship golf course. Also located in the park is the River Lea house and museum, home to the Grand Island Historical Society. In winter, visitors can snowmobile by permit, cross-country ski, snowshoe, sled or ice fish. Water fowl hunting is allowed in season by permit. Beaver Island Clubhouse has banquet and catering facilities.

Lancaster
The Town of Lancaster is located in Erie County, in Western New York State, about eleven miles east of downtown Buffalo. The town measures slightly more than six miles north/south and six miles east/west for an area of 37 square miles. About 40,000 inhabitants call the town home. Lancaster is part of the 26th U.S. Congressional District and the 59th New York State Senate District. A five member Town Board administers the town, presided over by the Town Supervisor.
Today, the town and its two villages, Lancaster and Depew, are among the safest communities in the nation. They provide a wide range of real estate choices, social and cultural opportunities, with extensive services for the youth and elderly. Residents are employed in a diverse economy. Unemployment in Lancaster is among the lowest in the Buffalo Metropolitan area, reflecting both the strength of local companies, and the access to a growing diversity of employers within easy traveling distance.
Lancaster is drained by seven streams flowing from east to west. The watersheds are from north to south: Ellicott Creek; Scajaquada Creek; Spring Creek; Plumb Bottom Creek; Cayuga Creek: Little Buffalo Creek; and various branches of Slate Bottom Creek. Ellicott and Cayuga Creeks carry the greatest volume as they originate in the hills of Genesee and Wyoming counties.

Lewiston
Lewiston was the birthplace of the world famous Niagara Falls about 12,000 years ago, near the present location of Artpark. Since then, the power of Niagara Falls has eroded south through seven miles of solid rock. You can see the path the Falls has taken by following the Niagara Gorge which begins in Lewiston. Lewiston was the first European settlement in Western New York. During the 1600s and 1700s, when the French and British traders settled in the area, Lewiston was instrumental in the development of the Great Lakes region because of its strategic location.
It is situated on the Niagara River, across the river from Canada. The river is about 1500 feet wide. Actually, the world famous Niagara Falls started in Lewiston 12,000 years and has eroded south 7 miles since then. So when you look at the Niagara River from Lewiston, you are really looking at water that has already gone over Niagara Falls and is flowing north to Lake Ontario and eventually to the Atlantic Ocean. Today, about 3000 people live in the Village of Lewiston, and 16,000 people live in the Town of Lewiston which surrounds the Village.

The Town of Lewiston is situated in the Lewiston-Porter and Niagara-Wheatfield School Districts. Both districts offer elementary, middle, and high school. Town residents may also choose from several private education institutions. Niagara University and Niagara Community College offer continuing education.

Niagara Falls

Pendleton

The town of Pendleton was erected April 16, 1827, previous to which date it constituted a part of Niagara. It is bounded on the south by Tonawanda Creek, and is the central one of the six towns that touch the southern bounds of the county.
The Town of Pendleton extends from the central part of Niagara County, New York State, to the southern boundary which is Tonawanda Creek. The town straddles the Erie Canal. The town enjoys a mixture of residential and agricultural areas. The surface of the town is level or gently undulating; in the southern part, its boundary is Tonawanda Creek. Sawyer Creek crosses the west part. The Erie Canal runs generally in the northeasterly direction throughout the Town of Pendleton.
Pendleton Town Park is the main park, consisting of approximately 22 acres, located off Campbell Blvd., surrounding the Pendleton Town Hall. The park has several baseball diamonds, batting cages, tennis courts, play ground and fitness equipment, covered pavilions with picnic tables and barbecue grills.

West Seneca
West Seneca is a town in Erie County, New York, United States. The population was 45,920 at the 2000 census. West Seneca is a centrally-located interior town of the county, and a suburb of Buffalo. West Seneca, Orchard Park and Hamburg form the inner “Southtowns”, a cluster of middle-class suburban towns.
The town is home to the Charles E. Burchfield Nature & Art Center. West Seneca is also the location of the 7.2 million dollar state of the art Southtowns Family YMCA? Facility that opened in 2003. A recreational bicycle and pedestrian trail tentatively named the Seneca Creek Pathway is planned.

Wheatfield
Wheatfield is a town in Niagara County, New York, United States. The name stems from the agricultural use of the town lands, the growing of wheat. Wheatfield is the last town organized in Niagara county, and was set off from Niagara May 12. 1836. It lies on the southern boundary of the county, west of the center, and extends farther south than any other town. The Niagara River forms its southwestern boundary and Tonawanda Creek its southern. The soil is generally a clayey loam, not easy of cultivation, but productive of grains and especially of wheat; this latter fact gave the town its name. Cayuga Creek flows across the northwestern part of the town and empties into the Niagara River, and Sawyer’s Creek flows southeasterly across the southeastern part and empties into Tonawanda Creek.

Williamsville

The Village of Williamsville was incorporated in 1850 and is one of over 550 incorporated Villages chartered by the State of New York. It encompasses an irregular square mile, most of which lies within the Town of Amherst with its southeast corner in the Town of Cheektowaga.
On May 9, 1983, the Village of Williamsville Board of Trustees adopted a Historic Preservation Code, the purpose of which is to promote the awareness of landmarks of historic, cultural, social and architectural significance in the Village of Williamsville and to safe guard the heritage, character and quality of life unique to the Village through the preservation of these landmarks. To date, eleven sites including the Village Meeting House and the Williamsville Water Mills have been designated as historical sites.

Wilson
The Village of Wilson is within the Town of Wilson in the northern part of the county. It was incorporated on May 11, 1858. The village has a small boat harbor for Lake Ontario that includes several marinas and boat launching facilities. Wilson Harbor and its surrounding area boasts some of the best bass, trout, and salmon fishing in Western New York.
Niagara County ranks 18th in the state for number of farms and 27th for land in agricultural production. Niagara County has 830 farms on 139,400 acres of land. The average size of a farm in the county in 168 acres. The dairy industry accounts for 26% of all the agricultural production in the county. Receipts from the dairy industry each year total $15 Million. The production of fruits and berries yields $13.6 Million in sales annually. There are 3,000 equines in Niagara County. The horse industry generates about $12.5 Million annually to the local economy.
